HK Local Schools Admissions Overview
Stage 1 – Initial Consultation
Beginning of P.5 for prospective F.1 applicants/ a year in advance for F.2-F.5 applicants:
- Understand the strengths and interests of your child to find the right HK Local Schools
- Meet with our education consultants for advice on suitable HK Local Schools
- Take our diagnostic test to identify academic positioning and find the most suitable schools
Stage 2 – Internal Assessment Preparation
Middle of P.5 for F.1 applicants:
What are the Internal Assessments (IAs)?
- IAs take place at the end of P.5, in the mid-year and the end of P.6
- IAs are school-based assessments, and the details of the assessment vary from school to school
Why are IAs important?
- When judging an applicant’s academic performance, huge weighting is given to their IA results, particularly the first two (end of P.5 and mid-P.6)
- IA results are highly correlated with interview and acceptance offers
- IA results determine students’ allocation bands in the Central Application (students from a higher band are allocated first)
Stage 3 – Applications
Beginning of P.6 for F.1 applicants
- Assist in the application process:
- Private applications for DSS and private schools from P.6 autumn
- Secondary School Places Allocation (including Discretionary Place Applications and Central Application) for government and aided schools
- Review and edit documents for submission
- Draft a CV and compile a student profile for schools
Feb to June of the entry year for F.2-5 applicants:
- Applications are done privately and differ for each school

Stage 4 – Interviews & Assessments

What are the interviews like?
- Interviews are held by DSS and private schools as early as December of P.6
- Usually held following the Discretionary Place Applications for government and aided schools between January and March
- Generally academic-oriented and focus on core subjects: Chinese and English
