UK Child Student Visa – Application Service

Who Can Apply

The Child Student Visa is for students who are between 4 and 17 years old and want to study at an independent school in the UK.

The student must:

  • Have an unconditional offer of a place on a course at an independent school.
  • Be able to show you’ll have access to enough money to support you in the UK and pay for your course.
  • Have the consent of his/her parent or legal guardian to study and live in the UK – prove is required during application.

 

When To Apply

If you are applying from outside the UK, the earliest you can apply for a visa is 6 months before the start of the course. Decisions are usually made within 3 weeks.

 

Duration of Stay

Age during application:

  • Under 16: Course length (up to 6 years) plus 4 months afterwards
  • 16 or 17: Course length (up to 3 years) plus 4 months afterwards

 

Documents Needed To Apply

When you apply you’ll need to provide:

  • Current passport or other valid travel document
  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your course provider
  • Written consent from your parent or legal guardian for your study and living arrangements in the UK
  • Proof that you have enough money to support yourself
  • Proof of relationship to your parent or legal guardian 
  • Evidence of the qualifications you used to get a place on your course – if required by course provider
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test results
  • Written consent for your application from your financial sponsor if you’ve received sponsorship for your course fees and living costs in the last 12 months

 

Extend Your Visa

You may be able to extend your visa if you’re eligible, for example to continue your studies in the UK。


To get a decision within 5 working days

If you’re eligible you can choose the ‘priority service’ when you apply. You’ll need to pay additional fees.

You’ll get a decision within 5 working days. The time starts from either:

You’ll be told whether you can prove your identity at a UKVCAS centre or using the app when you apply.


To get a decision by the end of the next working day

If you’re eligible you can choose the ‘super priority service’ when you apply. You’ll need to pay extra additional fees.

You’ll get a decision:

  • by the end of the next working day after your appointment, if your appointment is on a weekday
  • 2 working days after your appointment, if your appointment is at the weekend or on a bank holiday

You cannot get a decision by the end of the next working day if you use the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app.
